I had a job worked 3 years for, let go because I failed to follow a specific set of intricate procedures. Impossible to remove from resume (I'm still early career) but hard to avoid saying I wasn't fired. I feel screwed because it's been 3 months and I can no longer say I work there; many companies do background checks regardless. Being laid off from a government job seems unbelievable either. I feel stuck

Don, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the wonderful advice you have given us all. I hadn’t had a job for over 20 years and recently went to my first after all this while. I was offered the position as an Administrative Manager and although it’s a part time position, it’s a pretty intense role for a multinational company. Your videos gave me such clarity and prepared me so well to handle the tough questions and the arduous experience of 3 long interviews. Thanks doesn’t seem enough so I will pray blessings upon you, your work, and your family. Blessings to you from New Zealand.

I looked up the link for the free book but it says it can’t be found:( ps I think you’re pretty cool and I have a question if you don’t mind ❤ So I had my very first ever phone interview a month ago for a customer service representative for HSN ( home shopping network) I was nervous of course but I had to take a simulation test and passed and next step was the interview. Well I initially applied for QVC ( a sister company) and passed the test but no open time slots for self scheduling interview which is why I applied for HSN ( I immediately found a time slot but then noticed that the QVC time slot became available too ( I didn’t think it would look good to schedule since I already had an Hsn interview set up. I practiced what to say and the whole initial “ tell me about yourself “ but it never came up lol I answered professionally although she was late calling ( I of course didn’t say anything ) oppositely I greeted her very nice and told her I’m so excited to speak to her today and asked how she was doing and NOTHING LOL SHE totally ignored everything I asked and said and began reading off a script informing me she’s going to ask me questions. I was kinda in shock but no “tell me about yourself, no how are you? “ it was like talking to a computer and coincidentally enough that’s the majority of the questions I was given. No customer service attributes seemed to matter as far as compassion, efficiency and empathy. It seemed she was looking for a Best Buy geek squad guy. My question is, do you think I can call someone over her and ask for a chance to interview for QVC ? When I got the declined email it was from Hsn but also I guess the computer generated one from QVC as well since they r sister companies but I don’t think it’s fair to be denied because of an uncaring computer like artificial intelligence person that didn’t even get to know me really. Just curious your thoughts

Interviews are just ridiculous these days, you've basically got to go to interview school and learn how to make up some bullshit stories and practice them over and over again so you can perform your nonsensical script in front of the judges. I will never enter a competency based interview again. Ridiculous questions!!! How about interviewing me on my actual skill set in line with the job I'm actually being interviewed for 🤷‍♂️

Your advice is filthy. You are telling people to blatantly lie. That is not a Christian thing, so most will steer clear of lying in an interview.

A great example of a question, but don’t be scared if you don’t have any questions. Any senior recruiter will take in everything else in account and focus on what they actually can compare to what is needed and demanded for the job. Unless asking questions in an interview is the demand for the position

My go-to last question has always been, “Do you have any doubts about my abilities or whether I’m the right fit for the job”? If they say no, you’ve basically made up their mind for them. Plus, if they do express any concerns, it gives you an opportunity to dispel any hesitation.

Don, hope you can help me! I applied for this position with a company last February 2023 and was a finalist. I didn’t get the job…. I took some time from looking and now this company wants to meet with me. I applied not knowing it’s with the same manager I met with last year!!!! I really want to be part of this company and I’m doing my homework because I don’t want to have to go through another five hours of grueling interviews. Any suggestions? And Yes I’m going to ask for the job this time!!!!!!!

Well, normally I would ask questions before that already if it fits into the conversation. Then it depends on whether there are questions left. But yeah, write them down before the interview so you do not forget any.
